T-Mobile Again To The Rescue

Free internet and text even in Honduras, but the speed is slower than in Mexico and unlike Mexico, calls are not free. Calls are 25 cents per minute. But if we can get onto a WiFi HotSpot, we can make calls using WiFi Calling for free. An international pass can be purchased from T-mobile for $5 per day or $50 per month that does provide free calling from Honduras and from almost anywhere in the world plus a lot more high-speed internet data. We usually purchase the $50 one month International Pass if we are going to be spending several days outside the United States. Well worth it.

A Garifuna Culture Dance
Right At The Cruise Port

Maybe we should have skipped the tour as this is exactly what we saw after traveling by tour bus for an hour to a remote Garifuna village?

Overview: Enjoy a 3.5-hour guided trip around the island that lets you see the old Dixon Cove shipwreck, relish panoramic views, and immerses you in the cultural customs of the Garifuna people. Take a 15-minute drive across the island of Roatan that leads you to Dixon Cove. Here you'll see the final resting place of a rusted lumber cargo ship that ran aground just offshore in 1971. Then stand atop a picturesque lookout point known as "The View" to take in sweeping panoramas of the island landscape below - take a few minutes for souvenir shopping, too. Then prepare yourself for an authentic cultural immersion in the nearby community of Punta Gorda. Since the 1200s the indigenous Garifuna people - a mixture of African, Island Carib, European and Arawak Indian - have called this home. Listen along to oral storytelling and join in traditional dancing before tasting a variety of local treats including coconut candy, "machuca" mash and cassava bread. Experience the true essence of Honduras before returning to the pier.

Highlights: Dixon Cove: See the skeleton of a rusty cargo ship that ran aground in local Honduran waters in the 1970s. The View: Watch island scenery splay before you at a scenic lookout and enjoy a bit of souvenir shopping. Punta Gorda: Get an authentic feel for the Garifuna people's distinct customs and culture through storytelling, dancing and cuisine.

This tour starting location is extremely well organized, more so that almost any other tour starting location we have ever been to. It was easy to find it from the ship. We didn't have to go through any line of stores and vendors to get to it. The waiting location was very well marked, organized, and under covers. No worry about standing in the heat of the sun or rain. The tour buses were right in front of where tourists line up for each tour. I was quite impressed. Much better than the chaos and lack of organized facilities at Cozumel.

Wonder Of The Seas
Royal Promenade

Most cruise ships have a good size atrium that tends to be the centerpiece of this ship. It is a lounge where many people hang out all day and the ship provides almost continuous rotating entertainment. It is usually multileve with a bar and where most of the main events occur. The Wonder Of The Seas does not have an area like this. Instead they have a huge area called the "Royal Promenade" that is as large as the common area of many shopping malls. With all the shops, bars, restaurants and other services in this area, it looks very much like a shopping mall. This is where they have many central events and entertainment, but it is so huge that seating is spread out along the entire length of the promenade.

Elevator

The Wonder Of The Seas has 2 banks of elevators, one midship forward and one midship aft. Each has two sets of eight elevators each for a total of 16 elevators forward and 16 elevators aft for a total of 32 passenger elevators on the ship. Most of them are all glass elevators giving you a great view of every level as you rise up and down through 16 of the 18 levels of the ship.

Central Park

Central Park is modeled after Central Park in New York City. Many upscale restaurants as well as thousands of live plants and trees line both sides of the outdoor walkways. The restaurants feature both indoor and outdoor dining. The balconies of inner balcony cabins overlook Central Park.
