Above: Schedule for Tuesday, June 4, 2019

The above gift cards were delivered to our room, one for me and one for my wife good for $50 each off spa services. They are only good through tomorrow, Wednesday, June 5, 2019. I tend to avoid the spa services on cruises. For me it kind of ruins the whole relaxing experience when they try to upsell me with all sorts of products at the end of the massage that I know I will never use. It sort of puts all the stress back into the experience that they just spent an hour removing. I'll just wait until the end of the cruise where I can get a more relaxing and less expensive massage at Massage Envy.

Arriving into Mazatlan.

Enjoy a 90 minute boat tour where you will explore the majestic offshore islands and see one of the tallest lighthouses on a natural hill where the water of the Pacific Ocean and Sea of Cortez meet. See pelicans, cormorants, frigate bird and sea lions. Your tour guide will provide narration of the areas and points of interest as well. After the boat ride, board an A/C motorcoach for a brief city tour to visit the downtown area and cultural highlights such as the cathedral, city hall, Machado square, Pino Suarez local market and cliff divers. Continue with a scenic drive along Mazatlan's waterfront to the golden zone area.

Notes

Bring sunscreen, hat, and comfortable shoes and clothes.

Above is the catamaran that we boarded for the first 90 minute water portion of the tour. It was located in the same dock area as our cruise ship so we just had to walk a bit down the dock to board the catamaran.

Carnival Splendor and Barbara Cepinko, my wife.

While on the catamaran we were lucky enough to be in just the right spot to get a couple of great photos of our ship, the Carnival Splendor, including one with Barbara centered right in front of it!

This tour wasn't very crowded. The catamaran was only about half full if even that. They had an Open Bar (free drinks!) for the entire 90 minute water portion of the tour. They served a beer that is made right in Mazatlan along with Margaritas, soft drinks and water. You were allowed to have as many drinks as you wanted. They brought the drinks around to every passenger but you could also go up to the bar to get more drinks. We tipped the bar tender $2 ($1 for each drink that we had).

Above are photos from the water portion of the tour.

The 90 minute water portion of the tour ended at a different place than the cruise port where we had boarded. There were two luxury motor coaches waiting for use where we got off the catamaran. Since there weren't that many people of this tour we only half filled up about half of each tour bus.

A religious statue near the port.

Mangos grown and plentiful in Mazatlan.

A beautiful house in Mazatlan.

The above photos were taken while driving along the Malecon, a 17-mile long beach in Mazatlan.

Cliff Divers in Mazatlan. These people dive off these cliffs almost all day long. It is very dangerous as they have to leap out beyond the rocks below and into water that is only about 5 feet deep. After diving they come back to the audience to collect tips from those watching and taking photos and videos.

Above are photos of the main square in Mazatlan.
Barbara sat in the center of the butterfly.

Above is the cathedral in Mazatlan.

Food from an excellent bakery behind the cathedral.

Above is a photo of a fresh made tortilla and cheese. Our tour guide served each of us a tortilla and some cheese. The tortilla was freshly made from a nearby bakery and the cheese was freshly made at a nearby farm that morning.

We had lunch at a Mexican restaurant, Margaritas Bar & Grill, in the Golden Zone recommended by our tour guide. The prices were listed in American dollars but were reasonable. The huge plate of shrimp above was just considered an appetizer and was only $10.50 US. We ordered the Combinacion Mexicana which included a chile relleno, burrito, tostada, enchilada, quesadilla, frijoles, arro, guacamole, salsa and chips. That was a lot of food for only $13.50 US! We split that dish and it was more than enough for both of us. The diet coke was a bit expensive at $2.50 US per can but that was OK with the rest of the mean being so inexpensive. The entire meal for the two of us only came to about $26.50 US plus tip. We could have done without the shrimp which would have brought the price down to only $16 US but Mazatlan is known for its shrimp. Most of the food was excellent.

A night club by the water in Mazatlan.

More statues along the Malecon 17 mile beach.

Later that evening my wife and I went for the Mini Martini Tasting in the Mojito Bar. The ship map has this labeled as the Mojito Wine Bar, but it has no better selection of wine than any other bar on the ship. I think it may have been a wine bar many years ago. I ordered the first 4 Mini Martinis and my wife ordered the last 4 so that we could both try all 8 of the different Mini Martinis. We did this on our prior cruise on the Carnival Splendor but decided to do it again. The bartender poured 4 at a time as you can see in the photo above. On our prior cruise the bartender poured all 8 at once!

The Mojito Bar also had the Mini Mule Tasting available. According to the Fun Times Dailey Schedule the Mini Martini Tasting was only supposed to be available from 5 PM to Midnight in the Mojito Bar today and the Mini Mule Tasting only available tomorrow. But actually, both the Mini Martini Tasting and Mini Mule Tasting were available at all times throughout the entire cruise according to the bartender at the Mojito Bar. Also the Fun Times Dailey Schedule only announce "Doubles" for $3 more on certain days but the bartender said doubles for $3 were available for the entire cruise. On our 14 Day Hawaii Cruise on this Carnival Splendor we did find that what the bartender said was accurate that doubles were available for the entire cruise for just $3 more and the Mini Tastings were also available for the entire cruise. There was one Carnival cruise that we were on, either the Carnival Miracle through the Panama Canal or the Carnival Horizon Transatlantic where the Mini Tastings were only available for one day.

I noticed that they had one of my favorite Scotch Whiskeys from Islay available at the Mojito Bar, Ardbeg.
