Duty Free Whisky For Sale On The Ship

These could be purchased in the Tradewinds on board ship store duty free. Whatever you purchased would be delivered to your cabin the night before disembarkation. They would not be delivered to you and could not be consumed on the ship. Sometimes there would be free tasting events where you could try a very small sample of them.

Bocce Was One Of The Activities

Blind Black Glass Wine Tasting

This event entailed having wine served to us in black wine glasses. We were to try to figure out if the wine was red or white, old world or new world, and the grape variety. I did pretty good in knowing red from white wine but didn't do as well in the other categories. Very few in our entire wine tasting group did well other than in being able to tell a red from a white wine.

Whisky & Beer Pairing Event

They had several wine and spirit tasting events all on the same day often only spaced 30 minutes apart. They really should have had one wine or spirit tasting event each day rather than clustering them all into the same days. I think most people would not want to go to more than one of these on the same day, and going to more than two in the same day I think would be impossible for most people. I think a number of people would have attended more of these events had they not all been on the same day.

This was an event where we were each given one shot of whisky along with 3 different types of beer. The idea was to see how taking a sip of each beer would effect the taste of the whisky. Tasting each beer before sipping the whisky did effect the taste. Some beers made the whisky taste better or more nutty while others made the whisky taste worse. The Guinness seemed the best of the beers for enhancing the taste of the whiskey.

Spinniker Lounge

The Spinniker was a very large lounge at the front of the ship. The floor to ceiling windows on 3 sides of the lounge provided a wonderful 270 degree forward view of where we were heading. Live music entertainment including dancing was featured on most nights during the cruise in this lounge.

Stardust Theater

This was the main theater of the ship where the featured broadway performances were held. There would be an early performance at 7:30 PM and then a late performance at 9:30 PM. It was a very large theater that included balconies. Most likely it could hold at least half the number of passengers on the ship which would be about 1500 people.

Champagne

People that we had met earlier at the wine tasting offered us this half full bottle of champagne. They had enough for the evening and asked if we'd like the rest. My wife and I are more wine drinkers than Champagne drinkers, but we were more than happy to take it off their hands. Better than letting it go to waste!
